About AALP

Established in 1984, the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program (AALP) is an executive development program for men and women who want to broaden their horizons and expand their networks to help shape the future of the agriculture and food sectors in Ontario. AALP is administered by the Rural Ontario Institute. Through a series of seminars, AALP participants develop leadership skills, an increased knowledge of the agri-food system and perspectives on critical issues in the industry. Study topics include: government and political systems, marketing and economics, environmental impact, national and international trade, communication and organization skills, decision making, consumer and social issues, working with the media, trends in the agri-food industry and society, and globalization and the dynamics of change.  The value of this program is further enhanced as participants expand their networks across the agri-food and rural sectors, through their North American and international study tours.

Class 14 (2011-2013) will begin in September 2011.  Eligible persons are Ontario residents who have demonstrated leadership qualities and interest in community activities, and show potential for further leadership development. They are farmers, employees of agriculturally related business and/or the food industry and others committed to Ontario agriculture and rural communities. Thirty individuals are selected through an interview process, to participate in each class.  Participants pay a tuition fee which covers one quarter of the total program cost. The balance of funding is provided through the generosity of AALP’s partners and sponsors.
