The Ken McKinnon Memorial Fund is a tribute to Ken McKinnon's leadership and service to Canadian agriculture, and a commitment to excellence in the agricultural leaders of tomorrow.
A director of the Concentrated Milk Producers' Board in the early 1960s, Ken was chosen by the Ontario Minister of Agriculture, William A. Stewart, to be a founding member of the original Ontario Milk Marketing Board (OMMB). Ken was re-elected to the Board representing Region 11 (Bruce, Grey and Huron counties) from 1965 until 1986. He served as Vice-Chairman, and for eight years as Chairman. He was also President of the Dairy Farmers of Canada and Vice-Chairman of the Dairy Bureau of Canada during that time. In 1986, Ken left the OMMB to become Vice-Chairman of the Canadian Dairy Comission, and was later appointed by the Federal Minister of Agriculture to chair the Task Force on National Dairy Policy.
During his 21 year tenure at the OMMB, Ken played an integral role in leading the changes that revolutionized milk production, pricing and marketing in Ontario, and throughout Canada.
Ken McKinnon died in December 1991, at the age of 63.
Through donations from families, individuals, businesses and organizations, the Ken McKinnon Memorial Fund will foster the leadership qualities needed in rural Ontario in the years ahead. Your contribution, large or small, is important and very much appreciated.
